Scottish Fencing's Plastic Foil Championships 2014

These will be held on Sunday 1st June, 2014, at St. Thomas of Aquins' High School.

There are Boys Championships and Girls Championships for each year of Primary school from Primary 3 upwards:

There is no pre-set finish time, and check-in is staggered throughout the day:
Check-in:
P3 & P4 : 9:30-9:45am
P5: 11:30-11:45am
P6: 1:00-1:15pm
P7: 2:30-2:45pm

The competition will be two rounds of pools, first to 5 hits, followed by direct-elimination fights up to 8 hits.

There is no pre-set finish time.

Remember to join Salle FiF before sending in your entry form:

Entry fee + Scottish Fencing Membership fee = £32
or
Entry fee + Scottish Fencing Membership fee + Salle FiF membership fee = £20

If you know anyone who won a title last year or the year before, remind them to return the plate!



SFPFC'13 Day 2 P6/7

The next day we had 9 fencers - 7 of Coach Gordon's, and 2 of Coach Matt's.

In the P6 Boy's, Fraser Innes took Bronze and Caelan May took Gold (both of FiF N. Merchiston).
In the P6 Girl's, Indio Grant (FiF N.Merchiston) took Gold

In the P7 Girl's, Emma barker took Silver and Agnia Naumova took Gold (both of FiF Carrickvale)
In the P7 Boy's, Thomas Rampley (FiF N.Merchiston) took Bronze, Sean Steadman (FiF Craiglockhart) took Silver and Angus Love (FiF Craiglockhart) took Gold.

SFPFC '13 - Results from day 1


FiF had 7 fencers at today's P3/4/5 Scottish Fencing Plastic Foil Championships, out of the 30 participants.

All 7 came home medallists : one gold, 5 silver, one bronze.

From North Merchiston, well done to Kalu - Scottish Fencing P5 Champion Boy 2013 - and Katie - P5 Girl Championship Silver medallist.

From Sighthill, Oskar won the P4 Boys Silver medal, in a controversial final.

From Carrickvale, Samuel won the P3 Boys Silver medal, losing narrowly 8-7, and Izzy reached the semi-final to win the P5 Boys Bronze medal, knocked out by the eventual winner, Kalu.

From Craiglockhart, Rosie won the P4 Girls Silver medal.

From Bruntsfield, Ben won the P5 Boys Silver medal, after losing narrowly to Kalu in the final.

Tomorrow the P6 & P7 Championships start at 11am  (bringing the P7 event forward from the original noon check-in).   Make sure you specify "Salle FiF" on your entry forms and Scottish Fencing membership forms - or you'll get charged an extra £12-£15 pounds.

Check-in for tomorrow's P7 event has been brought forward from noon to 11am.

Please make sure you arrive at the new, earlier time.

(What happens if only some people arrive at the time is either - "late"comers will be disqualified; or everyone who arrives at 11am will have to wait around until noon before check-in completes.)

When you check-in:

Make sure you put "Salle FiF" on your entry form and your Scottish Fencing membership application form.

Or you'll get charged an extra £12 or £15!

Scottish Fencing Plastic Foil Championships 2013 - entry deadline extended

Yesterday, Scottish Fencing (SF) announced that entries to this year's SFPFC have been extended until Friday, 24th May.

This year, the championships will be held at Fencing Fun's metal-weapons fencing headquarters, Holy Rood High School.

Primaries 3,4 & 5 compete on Saturday, 25th May, and Primaries 6 & 7 compete on Sunday, 26th May.

Primary 3 check-in is 8:30am-8:45am, on the Saturday

Primary 4 check-in is 11am-11:15am, on the Saturday

Primary 5 check-in is 2pm-2:15pm, on the Saturday

Primary 6 check-in is 11am-11:15am, on the Sunday

Primary 7 check-in is Noon-12:15pm, on the Sunday

n.b. The P6 & P7 events are on SUNDAY, definitely.  
(Please ignore SF's website and entry-form saying "Saturday").

Select "Salle FiF" as your club - this entitles you to a £10 Social Membership of SF.
Otherwise, you will have to take out an Under-13 Membership of SF for £25.

Membership of Salle FiF costs £3, payable at the Championships, or next time you see a Salle FiF official.

For statistics junkies:

FiF Fencers take 1st, 2nd & 3rd in the first event

For the events Salle FiF entered, we made up 23% of the field, and we made up 21% of the total children entering the Scottish Plastic Foil Championships.

We had entries in 7 out of the 10 categories.

For the seven events we entered, we were 23% of the field; we won 48% of the medals, and 22% of the events.

For the events our girls entered, we were 86% of the field, and we won 83% of the medals, and 50% of the events.

For the events our boys entered, we were 19% of the field;  we won 33% of the medals, and 20% of the events.

Overall, across all 10 categories, we were 21% of the field; we won 33% of the medals, and 20% of the events.

Congratulations to our fencers!

I hope everyone had a great day. There were lots of smiling faces.

Salle FiF fielded 23 fencers out of a total field of 110, and contested seven of the ten events.

We won two out of those seven events, and 10 out of the 21 medals we contended for!

Congratulations to all our fencers, and we will be sending you full details of how you did as soon as we can.

  • Rosie,  who was 6th overall boy or girl in her entire year group
